Out-of-Order Alerts: Arrival Order Is Not Version Order
A later-arriving original should not automatically supersede a previously received amendment.
Keep both the source order and receipt order
Messages can be observed in an order different from their intended instruction history. Preserve the source version, effective time and receipt time as separate fields. Sorting only by arrival can make an older original appear to be the latest instruction. Sorting only by a self-reported source time can conceal uncertainty about what the recipient actually saw.
A source sequence or explicit version relationship can help resolve identity, but its authenticity and meaning still need evidence. Do not invent a version counter from favourable outcomes. If the relationship is absent, retain both messages and mark their authority unresolved rather than letting a later screenshot choose the preferred history.
A synthetic reversal demonstrates the question
Imagine a non-actionable original version 1 and a linked amendment version 2. The amendment is observed first, and the original appears afterward. This is an invented teaching case, not a platform incident. The expected interpretation must say whether the old version is retained as history, rejected as stale or otherwise handled. Arrival alone cannot decide that policy.
Test a cancellation arriving before the original in the same isolated way. The destination may need to recognise the original family even when it has not displayed that original yet. Keep the expected result and actual observation distinct. BTA's synthetic files document questions; they do not demonstrate how a real destination implements them.
Bound the operational claim
A known version chain can describe the applicable instruction history while the reader's awareness remains uncertain. Conversely, a complete receipt history can exist without trustworthy source-version authority. These are different missing artifacts. A review should report each gap rather than treating one complete log as proof of the other.
An account consequence requires separate order evidence. A stale arrival could be ignored, displayed or acted on depending on the actual destination. This publication cannot infer which occurred from a message list. Preserve original logs and seek the responsible system's documented handling before describing the route as safe.

| Artifact | Record to retain |
|---|---|
| Two orders | Source version chain and observed receipt sequence |
| Stale policy | Expected treatment of superseded messages |
